For those of us who place more trust in free markets than
state-directed economies, we must inevitably (and repeatedly)
confront the skeptical interlocutor who details the "successes" of
Swedish social democracy.
Since he first presented his vision of health care reform,
President Obama has addressed the issue of how his plan would
affect people's current coverage with varying degrees of accuracy
and honesty. He frequently has made flat-out guarantees that cannot
be squared with the details of his plan, such as this one, from a
June 2009
speech to the American Medical Association:

Why the wait? The drafting process has been pretty opaque so outside observers can’t know for certain, but the scuttlebutt is that drafters just haven’t been able to agree on what the standards should contain.
